NEGROS OCCIDENTAL, December 4 (PIA6) -- Bikers from Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Cebu, Iloilo, Guimaras and Metro Manila gathered for an advocacy ride which promotes clean air, wildlife, and road discipline.
Dubbed as the 3rdTour of the Fireflies, the activity was spearheaded by the Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Management Office (PEMO), in collaboration with the Firefly Brigade and the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) - Negros Occidental.
The bike tour converged in the municipality of Hinigaran from two starting points in the cities of Bacolod and Kabankalan.
PENR Officer Edgardo Rostata expressed enthusiasm and hoped that more road cyclists will engage in the Tour of the Fireflies.
Meanwhile, PEM Officer Wilfred Ramon Penalosa said that the activity served as a platform to educate the local government units (LGUs) of the necessity for bicycle lanes and to show that road cyclists know how to observe traffic rules.
Firefly Brigade Officer Erik Vergara likewise stressed, "We believe that a healthy environment equates to healthier people."
The Tour of the Fireflies is one of the activities highlighted in the recently concluded Provincial Wildlife Awareness Month. (LML-PIA6 Negros Occidental)
