IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay, December 14 (PIA) - - Municipal information officers and media practitioners attended the SSS Sulit Conference while women leaders joined the Sulit Barangay Forum held here recently.
The activity, which is the last leg of the campaign spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency created more awareness on social security benefits among the participants and captured their interest.
Atty. Rodrigo Filoteo, VP SSS Mindanao West Division said the Philippines has a population of 110 million people and about 35 million are SSS members. "This is an investment for our future, for our family. The benefits that you will receive is very high compared to what you have contributed," he said.
The open forum turned out to be a lengthy yet productive discussion of Sulit membership and the benefits that a member could avail of such as: Sickness, Maternity, Disability, Retirement, Death and Funeral benefits.
Ulysses John Almocera, representing Mayor Anamel C. Olegario said it is important that we give people the right information as he manages the "Ipil Safe, Ipil Strong' official Facebook page of the LGU. "We package our information on the progress of Ipil through social media and we are receiving positive feedbacks. Even though they are in far away places, they have a feel of home when they see the progress, and they fell proud," he quoted.
PIA Regional Director Ms. Noemi B. Edaga presented the PIA primer and its priority advocacies on HIV-AIDS, Violence Against Women and Children, peace and order, violent extremism, and responsible use of social media, among others.
SB Member Lorverle Caracol of Tungawan town expressed his support and pushed for massive information dissemination to encourage those in the informal sector to become a member, especially the "kasambahay."
"Mas nadagdagan ang aking kaalaman tungkol sa mga programa at benepisyo ng SSS na dati hindi ko alam at hindi binigyan ng importansiya," according to Minda Tugot, a participant who was very grateful that she attended the forum.
They called on SSS officials to establish more offices in Zamboanga Sibugay so that more Sibugaynons can avail of social security benefits and to bring down information to the barangay level to make it accessible to rural folks.
Other SSS officials who attended the forum were Mr. Rudy Lacandalo, SSS branch head, Zamboanga Sibugay, Napoleon Rabanal, Senior Communications Analyst, SSS Zamboanga City and Rande Luel Villaflor, Senior Analyst, SSS Sibugay. #SulitsaSSS. (ALT-PIA9/Zamboanga Sibugay)
