OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, May 20 (PIA)--It's the time of the year again when stakeholders are encouraged to pick up their tools and take part in making sure that public schools in their respective areas are ready for the opening of classes on June 3, 2019.
The Department of Education (DepEd) Ozamiz City kicked-off the Brigada Eskwela 2019 held at Ozamiz City National High School.
With this year's theme, "Matatag na Bayan Para sa Maunlad na Paaralan," DepEd officials led the kick-off ceremony and caravan of the 16th "Brigada Eskwela" at Ozamiz City.
The Brigada Eskwela is an annual program of DepEd aimed to promote community participation in preparing school facilities for the opening of classes.
They were joined by some teachers, students and parents in the Brigada Eskwela in Ozamiz.
Brigada Eskwela Coordinator Arlyn Granada said it promotes the Filipino spirit of 'bayanihan' or volunteerism, bringing together parents and members of the school community and partners from the private sector. Everyone can contribute in very small ways in preparing the schools for the opening of classes.
She said that parents should also be doing their share in caring for the schools that their children would be using in the next 10 months.
Granada said when classrooms are prepared ahead of the opening of classes, teachers will already be able to focus on her class discussions during the school year's opening. They no longer have to clean their classrooms and prepare the facility they need.
The initiative includes the cleanup of rooms, school surroundings, repair of equipment and inspection of electrical wiring.
DepEd meanwhile also accepted enrollment during Brigada Eskwela launch.
Also, "Brigada Eskwela" ran from May 20 to 25. (smrn/PIA-MisOcc)
