Iloilo City to mark Independence Day with commemorative activities

ILOILO CITY, June 11 (PIA) -- Flag raising and wreath-laying rites and program will highlight the 121st anniversary of the country's Independence Day on Wednesday, June 12, in this city.

The commemorative activities will start at 7:00 a.m. at Plaza Libertad.

Mayor Jose Espinosa III will be joined by vice mayor Jeffrey Ganzon and professor Alfredo Diaz of the University of the Philippines during the flag raising ceremony.

He will also lead the offering of the wreath at the monument of Dr. Jose Rizal located at the center of the plaza.

The Iloilo City Police Office will provide the volley of fire and taps.

Diaz is the guest of honor and will give the inspirational message for this year's observance carrying the theme "Kalayaan 2019: Tapang ng Bayan, Malasakit Sa Mamamayan."

Independence Day is observed as a regular holiday nationwide pursuant to Proclamation No. 555, series of 2018. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
