121 hired on the spot in Baguio Kalayaan Jobs Fair

BAGUIO CITY, June 14 (PIA) - - It was a fruitful day for the Department of Labor and Employment - led "Kalayaan" Job and Business Fairs at the Porta Vaga Mall here on June 12 with 121 job applicants hired - on the - spot (HOTS) of which 119 were for local employment and 2 for overseas work.

More than 3,500 local and overseas job vacancies were offered by 25 local employers and six overseas recruitment agencies.

A total of 1,131 job applicants registered wherein aside from the 121 HOTS, 804 were recorded as near- hires, or those who will be subjected to a final (follow - up) interview or required to submit additional documentary requirements.

Karen Lang - ay, 29, single, a Baguio resident and native of Ifugao was one of the HOTS. She was hired by Placewell International Agency for a nursing work in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Lang - ay is thankful and happy to be hired but a bit nervous as it will be her first time to work abroad. A registered nurse, her previous work was at Philippine Red Cross - Baguio.

Aside from hosting the venue for the jobs fair, Porta Vaga Mall also provided gift certificates and other gift items for the selected HOTS during the Kalayaan Jobs Fair.

General Manager Ronald Ceballo said partnering with the government in providing employment opportunity to job seekers is always been a part of their corporate social responsibility.

For the business part of the said "Trabaho, Negosyo, Kabuhayan" fair, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI - CAR) brought in its "Negosyo Center" for business consultation/counselling and other related services and hosted a business forum at the nearby Bishop's House for budding entrepreneurs.

For the livelihood part, DOLE and DTI project beneficiaries also have product display and selling in the venue while Porta Vaga also hosted an in - house discount "Diskwento Caravan" for both the mall goers and the jobseekers.

Other DOLE partner agencies also provided a One - Stop - Shop government service center with booths of Social Security System, PAGIBIG, PHILHEALTH, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration and Philippine Overseas Employment Administration. (JDP/CCD/PIA CAR with Lucky Lopez/UC intern)
