ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 13 (PIA) - Department of Labor and Employment IX (DOLE IX) Regional Director Ofelia Domingo encouraged Filipinos to work in the Philippines instead of working overseas to help with the progress of the country during the Independence Day jobs fair held yesterday (June 12) in KCC Mall here.

"We Filipinos love our country and jobseekers should appreciate work opportunities offered here through the government," she said.

Furthermore, DOLE IX strengthens pre-employment seminars for local applicants to encourage more Filipinos to stay and choose to work in the Philippines.

"The goal is to land the job and sustain the job," Director Domingo added. The seminar will enlighten and encourage more job seekers to look for long-term opportunities and not just temporary jobs for them to gain experiences.

However, she salutes Overseas Filipino Workers for giving pride to the country because of their sacrifices and hardships to give their families a better standard of living.

Director Domingo emphasized that one worker in a family is not considered to be enough in sustaining their quality of life.

In celebrating the Philippines' 121st Independence Day, DOLE IX conducted the Kalayaan 2019 Job Fair where they offered 2,845 local job vacancies and 18,401 overseas job vacancies to the residents of Zamboanga Peninsula.

During the Job Fair, DOLE also provided services like the one-stop-shop of all the government agencies which offers services on the pre-employment processing of requirements for the applicants.

Aside from services provided to the applicants, they conducted the Trabaho Negosyo Kabuhayan (TNK) livelihood seminar, an activity that enlightens people to become entrepreneurs.

The DOLE regularly conducts jobs fairs to improve the employment rate and to give decent careers to Filipinos. Job seekers have vast options of companies to apply for but still, they are encouraged to have long-term plans for the stability of their income. (ALT/MLE/PIA9-Zamboanga City)
