TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, June 14 (PIA) -- As the Filipino nation celebrated its 121st year of Philippine Independence on June 12, Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 2 head Purita Licas urged the more than 500 attendees of the celeberation to help shape the Filipinos of the next one hundred years, saying the future of our nation rests in the hands of every Filipino today.
In her message during the celebration, she reminded the government employees, members of non-government organizations and the citizens the heroic acts of our forefathers and that we should always honor their efforts, love of country and fellowmen, and their ultimate sacrifice.
"We celebrate our Independence Day every June 12 not only because it is part of our history, but much more as a continuing realization of our nation's story--a realization that we all share in the task of nation-building," Licas said.
In this period of evolving technology and various social media platforms, we have the greater means, and the deeper responsibility to contribute in finding solutions to our shared problems, she added.
Licas, who has been so passionate in pushing special celebrations like these, said there is a need for the young to be reminded of the bravery and gallantry of our heroes and that they can be heroes too in their own little ways even at a young age.
"Strive to stand for the truth, rise from poverty and oppression, and fight for their rights against any form of injustices," she said.
PIA for nine years now continue to partner with local government units and agencies in commemorating our independence as Filipinos. (MDCT/GVB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
