CABAGAN, Isabela, August 13 (PIA) -- The Isabela State University (ISU)-Cabagan Campus is now implementing a P3.1 million Knowledge Hub, dubbed as Project Sierra Madre Information on Environmental Research and Resource Acquisition. (Project SIERRA).

According to Dr. Maria Visitacion Guingab, coordinator of the ISU's Cagayan Valley Program on Environment and Development-Environment Information Services Section, the two-year project is funded by the Forest Foundation of the Philippines (FFP).

Project SIERRA aims to generate, integrate and access information on the socio-economic and bio-physical knowledge resources of the Sierra Madre Landscape.

Guingab said the project also aims to build and strengthen collaboration among instituions and other stakeholders in addressing the wider utilization of existing forest-related knowledge, and identification and filling of data gaps in the Sierra Madre Landscape.

"Since CVPED has an extensive collection of flora specimens from the Sierra Madre while more than 200 research reports such as projects, theses and field studies are available at the CVPED's reading room, there is need to consolidate and digitize these materials and outputs into a comprehensive database and make them more accessible to the end-users," she added.

Guingab said that one of the components of the project includes the development of an information system to store, integrate and access information and other knowledge products on the Sierra Madre Landscape.

Guingab added that Project Sierra, once fully implemented, will serve as an avenue for learning and knowledge exchange between and among the ISU's partner-organizations, forest managers, other institutions and the stakeholders.

She, however, clarified that the information system, once established, is also open for other government agencies, non-government organizations, including other State Universities and Colleges in Region 2 to share and publish their respective collection of research outputs and other resources focusing on the Sierra Madre for the public to know and utilize.
