TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, August 22 (PIA) - - At least 20 student leaders of the eight satellite campuses of the Cagayan State University (CagSU) participated in the "Youth for Truth" caravan held at CagSU Andrews campus on August 20.
The "Youth for Truth" movement uses the battle cry "Dismiss disinformation! in engaging the youth in the fight against the spread of fake news.
During the event, Nicole Namuco of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) urged the youth leaders to be advocates of truth and help the government combat the spread of fake news and to actively search for truth and dismiss disinformation and misinformation.
Namuco said the caravan seeks to avert the proliferation of fake news and disinformation by developing young minds deep-rooted with the values of truth, responsibility and integrity.
Bea Bailon, also from the PCOO, said one simple formula to distinguish sound news from fake ones is for the recipients of the information to examine the 5Cs, namely: content, context, communicator's identity, creator's intent and consequence.
Youth For Truth's radio program is aired via radio thru Radyo PIlipinas and carried live via Facebook pages of PCOO, RTVM and Radyo Pilipinas.
On the other hand, Reial Taguinod, CagSU student regent said the council is willing to partner with the PCOO and PIA in building an army of responsible sharers of true information to amplify the messaging and the story in their own campuses.
"When we conduct seminars relative to this campaign in our campuses, rest assured that we will tap you [core group of Youth For Truth] to discuss," Taguinod said. (MDCT/PIA-2)
