DAVAO DEL NORTE, Sept. 16 (PIA)- Raising awareness on agriculture among pupils and students is the essence of holding a quiz bee among the string of activities organized for this year's 7th Ugmad Festival.
The City Agriculture Office (CAGRO) of Tagum City today (Sept. 16) conducted the School Mania Quiz Bee which forms part of 2019 Ugmad Festival giving focus on the relevance on agriculture and fisheries.
In his message representing CAGRO Harold Dawa, CAGRO Research, Planning and Monitoring Division Head Rejean Zulueta pointed out the need to make the young people appreciate the value of agriculture noting that the average age of Filipino farmers is at 50 years old.
CAGRO of the City of Tagum organized the Quiz Bee for public and private elementary and secondary level pupils and students. Participants during the first round this morning were from elementary schools of Busaon Integrated School, Magugpo Pilot Imelda, Rizal, Mangga, Ignacio Xavier A. Tuason, Col. Rosalio C. Saludares, Magugpo Pilot Central, Apokon and Union.
Up to compete for the second round this afternoon are students from Tagum National Trade School, Busaon Integrated School, Canocotan National High School, North Davao Colleges Tagum Foundation, Magdum National High School, Jose Tuason Jr. Memorial National High School, CARD-MRI Development Institute, Inc., Tagum City National High School, Laureta National High School, and Tagum City National Comprehensive High School.
Most of the quiz bee questions pertained to agriculture while others were general information and current event items but were still related to agriculture.
Simultaneously held with the School Mania Quiz Bee was Poster Making (Doodle Art) Competition. After the secondary level quiz bee this afternoon is the Ugmad 2019 Best Science Investigatory Project Presentation Competition during which contestants are required to present research papers.
The five contestants to this agri-based competition are from Tagum City National High School, Busaon Integrated School, Jose Tuason Memorial National High School and North Davao Colleges (NDC) Foundation. (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron Abangan)
