ZAMBOANGA CITY, Sep. 22 (PIA)- Over 100 members of Mindanao Communicators Network, Inc. (MindaComNet) convened on Thursday for this year's 1st General Assembly held at a local hotel here.
MindaComNet is an organization of information officers of local government units, national government agencies , civil society organizations, and private media practitioners established in September 2000.
President Cecil Abuy said the MindaComNet as promoter of real and accurate news, plays a vital role in disseminating programs and activities of the government .
Abuy said the MindaComNet members contribute to public understanding of government policies where they spend majority of their time in facilitating the flow of information between the government, on one hand, and the media and public on the other.
He also said Zamboanga Peninsula is facing different problems such as poverty, security, rising incidence of teen pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS.
Abuy said in order to solve these problems, "we have to bring the government closer to the people thru the Communicators Network."
He also said that the people on the "other" side are always complaining that the government is doing nothing to solve the problems that they are experiencing.
Abuy expressed confidence that with the cooperation and participation of the MindaComNet, "we can make the people feel that they are part of this government."
Topics discussed during the assembly offered understanding government programs and policies through giving updates of the Executive Order 70 and Violent Extremism Concerns and Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflcit (RTF-ELCAC) of the national Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA9) and the Mindanao Visayas Interconnection Project of NGCP through the National Grid Corporation (NGCP).
