CEBU CITY, Oct. 1 (PIA) -- EducationUSA has opened its first advising center in Central Visayas here in Cebu to provide an avenue for students aspiring to study in the United States to know more about the process.

Promoting higher education to students around the world, EducationUSA helps in finding US universities that match the interests of the students.

The advising center in Cebu is located at the Josef Baumgartner Learning Resource Center of the University of San Carlos (USC) Talamban Campus and has just opened recently in March of this year.

Based on data provided, there are approximately 3,200 Filipinos who have already availed of the EducationUSA program all over the country.

Matt Keener, US Embassy Cultural Attache, is positive that the number would continue to grow through their new advising center in the region.

According to the EducationUSA Cebu Adviser Irish Concepcion, there are three students now undertaking the process of studying in USA.

The said students will pursue degrees on engineering, medicine, and communications.

Keener suggests that if students plan on taking up such an opportunity, they should apply for more than one university as early as 2 years before graduating highschool as the expected processing time is one and a half years.

The program caters to Bachelors and Masters degrees of various courses of study, depending on the university.

With the Philippines having a high rating on English proficiency, there is no doubt that Filipinos should be more encouraged to take up courses in the international arena.

There are universities in their database offering scholarships as well as free lodging for students as this is the primary concern of those who want to study abroad.

According to Keener, students should find the opportunities that would fit their needs and interests.

Upon visiting the USC Talamban Campus EducationUSA Advising Center, students may participate in different information sessions, orientations, and webinars to know more about what specific opportunities they can take up in the US.

EducationUSA is also scheduled to organize a university fair in Cebu City in February 2020 where representatives from different universities in the United States will be present to recruit as many aspiring students as possible. (smb/PIA7)
