LAGAWE, Ifugao, Oct. 22 (PIA)- - To ensure the maximum level of preparedness for any hazards that may affect the region and this province, the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) brought the Cordillera DRRM Caravan here.
The RDRRRMC represented by its chairman, Office of Civil Defense-Cordilllera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR) Regional Director Albert Mogol explained the objectives of this DRRM caravan while the Provincial DRRMC led by Governor Jerry Dalipog facilitated the presentation, discussion and review of the local disaster plans of the province.
Mogol said the objectives of this joint meeting are for the RDRRMC to be informed and updated on the contingency plans and preparedness measures of the local DRRM councils for the rainy season and other hydro-meteorological hazards, and review the municipal DRRM plans in accordance with the provisions of OCD Memorandum No. 552 series of 2017 defining a provisional review tool and checklist for local DRRM plans and in relation to the DBM Local Budget Memorandum No. 75. It also aims to update the province and the municipal DRRM officers on the activities, programs and projects of the RDRRMC.
The joint RDRRMC-PDRRMC meeting also served as an avenue for them to interface and discuss important matters including issues and concerns and gaps pertaining to the implementation of various DRRM-related programs and activities in their respective local government unit (LGUs) relative the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
This Act provides that every LGU should formulate and approve a Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (LDRRMP) covering four thematic areas namely Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Disaster Preparedness, Disaster Response and Disaster Rehabilitation and Recovery.
These LDRRMPs should be consistent with the National DRRM Plans and be implemented by the local disaster councils in every province, city and municipality throughout the country with the OCD as the Secretariat and Executive Arm of the NDRRMC. (JDP/DBC- PIA CAR, Ifugao)
