ILOILO CITY, Oct. 23 (PIA) - - Students from various public and private elementary schools in Iloilo have already manifested their interests to participate in the Poster-Making Contest which will be conducted on Wednesday, October 23 here.
The contest, which will take place at 1 P.M. at the Promenade Park of the Central Philippine University, was organized by the Regional Statistics Committee 6 as part of the 30th National Statistics Month celebration in Western Visayas
Based on the pre-registration conducted until Friday, October 18, a total of 11 students from six schools have already confirmed to join the contest. There are five schools that have yet to confirm their participation.
Jonny Pornel, Chairperson of the Philippine Statistical Association, Inc. - Iloilo and a member of RSC 6, said the poster-making contest is just one of the activities by RSC 6 intended for students to help them understand and appreciate statistics at a young age.
In a press conference held for the NSM celebration, Pornel said if the children understand statistics at a young age, later, when they get older they will understand these better.
The contest targeting artistically inclined elementary pupil aged 8 to 12 years old further aims at promoting awareness of the theme of the 30th National Statistics Month "Data Innovation: Key to a Better Nation".
Top three winners will receive certificates, medals and cash prizes of P7,000 for the first place; P5,000 for second place and P3,000 for third place during the celebration's closing ceremony on October 30. (JBG/laf/PIA6-Iloilo)
