ZAMBOANGA CITY, Nov 13 (PIA) - The Presidential Commission for Urban Poor (PCUP) led the recent conduct of a Serbisyo Caravan in barangay Mampang, this city bringing with them government services that residents usually find difficulty in availing. Serbisyo caravans have been conducted in rural and depressed communities with the support of government agencies and other stakeholders.
PCUP Commissioner Norman Baloro said "the purpose of the Caravan is to bring the programs of the government closer to the people those who are least, last and lost." He emphasized some areas in Mindanao specifically the urban poor communities still have a hard time to visit health centers and other government offices to seek for their needs.
About 36 agencies and organization converged for the caravan, providng services and information to residents of Mampang. PCUP prioritizes the urban poor communities in the entire Philippines. Barangay Mampang is the tenth community where PCUP held such an activity.
Baloro said they are targeting 59 local government units for the caravan all over the country, and this will continue until the end of President Rodrigo Duterte's term on June 2022.
More than a thousand adults and children in Barangay Mampang availed of the different services from government agenies. There were free medical and dental services and free medicines. The children were provided with supplemental feeding, free haircut and were entertained with a special magic show.
Meanwhile, Baloro encourages the urban poor with no permanent homes to seek help from the agencies or directly with the PCUP. "One of the commitments of the President is to give a comfortable life for all," Baloro said, and it is by this commitment that agencies are mandated to address the different problems of Filipinos, especially of those who are poor.
