17th Mindanao Film Festival opens

DAVAO CITY, December 5, (PIA) - The Mindanao Film Festival (MFF) returns for its 17th year, showcasing films that highlight and explore unique and fascinating stories of Mindanao. From December 4-10, it will have screenings at the Gaisano Mall Cinema 6 and the Davao Cinematheque Center.

MFF's primary goal is to exhibit the current achievements of Mindanaoan independent filmmaking to broad audiences with works by film artists from various ethnic backgrounds, religions, classes, and creeds, in order to promote an understanding that Mindanaoan stories and experiences are complex and multiple.

For this year's festival official selection, 27 films are listed under the Main Competition section, while 21 films are under the Mindanao Exhibition section and 10 films for the Non-Mindanao Exhibition section. To know more about the list of films, visit:

The MFF will have three jurors for the said festival. Coming from the famous lineage of renowned film artists is actress Maxine Eigenmann who is first on the list. Rosemarie O. Roque, an educator, film archivist and currently the Assistant Secretary of the Executive Committee of the NCCA will also be joining. The third juror, Ryanne Murcia, a Festival Director of Festival de Cine Paz Mindanao, a film festival in Zamboanga City and is also the Mindanao Representative of NCCA - National Committee on Cinema.

Being well known to filmmakers and filmgoers as a reputable event with a full range of awards categories, this year's festival will introduce the "Audience Choice Award". This will enable the audience to participate and have a voice by voting for their favorite film.
