RDRRMC 2 recognizes 2019 Gawad Kalasag champions

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Dec. 12 (PIA) - - The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) region 2 has recognized the regional winners of the 2019 Gawad Kalasag search.

Quirino province bagged this year's Best Provincial DRRM Council category; Cauayan City for city council category; Echague, Isabela for the Municipal 1st-3rd class; Saguday, Quirino for the 4th - 6th class; Naggasican, Santiago City for the Urban Barangay category; and Buenvista, Santiago City for the rural category.

Under the school category, Santiago East Central School of Santiago City also brought home the trophy for the public elementary school category; Cauayan City National High School for the public secondary. The three departments of St. Mary's University swept all the major awards in the elementary, secondary and tertiary levels respectively while Malini-Malvar Day care Center of Santiago City also adjudged as Best Early Learning Center.

The Southern Isabela Medical Center also won in the National Government Hospital category; Kabalikat Metro Association, Inc. also won the Volunteer Organization category, both from Santiago City.

Special recognitions were also awarded to Oceana Gold Philippines for the private/corporate organization category; the Callang General Hospital and Medical Inc. for the private hospital category; Rescue 1124 of Ilagan City and Rescue 10121 of Santiago City for the Government Emergency Response Management System category; Kabalikat Civicom Novo of Nueva Vizcaya for the group category; and Engr. Joseph Tan, the mayor of Santiago City for the individual category.

Regional Director Dante Balao of the Office of the Civil Defense and RDRRMC 2 chair recognized the efforts of all who have been working so hard to improve further the disaster risk reduction and management programs geared towards human, infrastructure, livelihood and economic resiliency in Cagayan Valley.

"We hope that other LGUs will be inspired and will also take their part in the furtherance of their DRR programs in their respective areas of responsibility as we always aim for zero casualty during calamities," Balao said during the awarding ceremonies.

The awardees will represnt the region in the national level. Cagayan Valley has been a recipient of the annual Gawad Kalasag search in the different categories. (MDCT/OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
