DAVAO CITY Dec. 12 (PIA) - A top officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Davao Region bared that there were 1,527 anti-illegal drugs operation in Region XI from January to November 2019.
Antonio Rivera, director of the PDEA XI said that of this number, 1,304 operations were conducted by the police, 176 operations by the PDEA, 43 operations conducted by the Task Force Davao and four operations by the National Bureau of Investigation XI.
He said more minors were also apprehended linked to illegal drugs this year, higher in number than in 2018.
"Seventy-one minors were arrested during the conduct of these operations, higher than in 2018 when a total of 52 minors were apprehended and turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development," Rivera said.
He also said that a total of 3.453 kilos of shabu were confiscated in the course of these operations in 2019 with Davao City having the biggest share with more than a kilo of shabu was seized.
Rivera said more than a kilo of shabu was confiscated in Davao City by the police, followed by Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao del Sur, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental.
He said PDEA had only confiscated 292 grams of shabu from January to November, 2019.
Rivera said that in 2018, a total of 2.147 kilograms of shabu were confiscated, smaller in kilograms compared to 2019.
He said money is the primary motivation why people, including those in the government service venture on illegal drugs.
"Uniformed personnel who is engaged on illegal drugs through selling, needs extra income to sustain his vices. No matter how we increase the salaries of these people for as long as they live beyond their means, they have to look for money to sustain their vices," Rivera said. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
