CEB CITY Jan. 20 (PIA) -- Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined the Cebuanos at the Cebu City Sports Complex on Jan. 19, 2020 in celebrating the 40th year of the Sinulog Festival.
In his speech, the President said Sinulog has become a symbol of the spirit and vibrancy of Cebu´s prosperity.
Duterte said Cebu has become a progressive city, but he pointed out the worsening traffic condition in the city, which he described as "horrendous".
"Ang inyong problema nalang dinhi ang inyong transportation, ang mobility ninyo diri tungod sa kadaan sa syudad (Your problem here now is your transportation, your mobility has become a challenge due to how old the city is)," Duterte said.
The President believes that the best alternative to address the traffic situation in the metropolitan is to build flyovers or commuter trains.
"The only alternative is kanang commuter train nga gagmay ug mga highway (small commuter trains and highways)," the President said.
The President said he will help find funding sources to implement the needed infrastructure projects.
This was Duterte's first time to join the Sinulog celebration since assuming office, as well as his first visit to Cebu for 2020.
He was joined by Sen. Bong Go, Cabinet Sec. Karlo Nograles, Presidential Communications Operations Sec. Martin Andanar, Presidential Assistance for the Visayas Sec. Michael Dino, local and national government officials. (fan/PIA7)
