BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, Feb. 16 (PIA) - The price of face masks sold in the province is still stable, according to officials of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

Henry Conel,Jr. DTI provincial director said the price of face or surgical mask ranges from P3.00 to P8.00 a piece based on their recent price monitoring activities.

The price monitoring was conducted in response to the confirmed outbreak of COVID-19 in the country.

Conel said their office through the Consumer Protection Division (CPD) and Negosyo Center Business Counsellors, monitored price and supply of face masks (N95 & surgical masks) at the different drugstores in the towns of Solano, Aritao, Bayombong, Bambang, Dupax del Sur, Diadi and Dupax del Norte by the end of January this year.

"Result of the monitoring showed that there were no more available facemasks sold as the date of their monitoring due to shortage of supply, " he said.

Conel added that the supply of face masks ran out because of the recent Taal volcano eruption where consumers in the province bought facemasks in large volumes and sent them to their relatives and friends in Manila, Batangas and Cavite.

He said drugstores have already placed orders earlier but no deliveries were made yet by suppliers and distributors from Manila.

"Some suppliers and distributors in Nueva Vizcaya delivered only a small volume of face masks but that can last for a day due to the high demand of the product. These distributors are also dependent on the supply coming from Manila," Conel added.

Citing feedback from drugstore owners, the DTI provincial chief said they expect facemask deliveries this month.

Conel further said that their monitoring team already warned the retailers not to sell unreasonable high prices when supply is available.# (MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
