ROXAS CITY, Capiz, March 25 (PIA) - The Provincial Health Office has registered its first positive COVID-19 case based on a laboratory examination result released by the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) yesterday.

The result was initially announced by Department of Health - Center for Health and Development - 6 director Dr. Marlyn Convocar, in a press conference in Iloilo City, to report two additional COVID - 19 cases in the region coming from Patients Under Investigation (PUI) from Manduriao, Iloilo City and the province, who turned out positive for SARS-CoV-2, a causative agent of the COVID-19.

Subsequently, Capiz Governor Esteban Evan B. Contreras called an emergency press conference last night, March 24, to deliver an official statement about the first confirmed positive case in the province.

He said that the patient, labeled as PUI No. 13, is a 45- year old male, single, with a travel history in Manila and arrived in the province last March 2, but he only manifested itchiness of the throat, cough and fever 10 days later which prompted him to seek medical consultation on March 16.

During the check up, he was considered as PUI based on a Decision Tool and was advised for hospital quarantine at the Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital here.

"With this significant development, we continuously assure our beloved Capicenos that we are doing all of our capabilities to contain and manage the threats of this dreaded pandemic in our province," Contreras said in his press statement.

The chief provincial executive has also issued an Executive Order No. 12 which directed the Enhanced Community Quarantine implementation provincewide starting last midnight of March 25, 2020 as part of the stringent measure against the spread of COVID-19.

The patient was already transferred to the Western Visayas Medical Center in Iloilo City last night for advance and appropriate medical management. (JBG/AAL/PIA Capiz)
