ILOILO CITY, March 27 (PIA6) --- The Western Visayas Medical Center (WVMC) can now process more test kits for COVID-19 following the transfer of the RT Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) machine to WVMC from the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV).
According to the UPV Information and Publication Office, the machine lent by the university will complement the existing PCR machine of WVMC for COVID-19 testing.
With two PCR machines, testing operations will be hastened and can be done more effectively in diagnosing infected persons and help provide effective medical care to patients.
Likewise, the initiative can also empower Iloilo City and other local government units in implementing more effective tracing and containment measures.
The said endeavour was spearheaded by the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) Visayas, which also assisted the medical technologists from the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) who arrived here recently.
PGC Visayas also lent its Digital Dry Batch that was needed to enable the use of extraction reagents of the 50,000 testing kits from China.
Meanwhile, the PCR machines of the University of San Agustin C2B2 Laboratory will also be deployed to increase the COVID-19 testing capabilities in Iloilo City. (LTP/UPV/PIA-Iloilo/Thumbnail photo courtesy of UPV-IPO)
