Kalinga police arrest 2, confiscate P4.3M worth of marijuana

TINGLAYAN, Kalinga, May 22 (PIA) -- Police operatives apprehended two individuals and confiscated 36 pieces of dried marijuana leaves and stalks in tubular form wrapped with transparent plastic from a vehicle at a quarantine checkpoint here.

The apprehended suspects were identified as Rich Vandamme Armoreda, 25, married, and Martin Lorenzo Serrano, 22, and single. Both are residents of Caloocan City.

In line with the guidelines on quarantine checkpoints due to Covid-19 pandemic, the police team conducted inspection and verification on a dark gray Adventure vehicle bearing plate No. NBD 1163 along the national road at Mamaga, Bugnay, Tinglayan. Then a police saw in plain view through the windshield an item in tubular form wrapped with transparent plastic bulging from a sack on the passenger seat back of the vehicle, the report stated.

When the suspects were asked on the content of the sack, they tried to escape but were eventually stopped and arrested, the report added.

Inventory and markings were conducted on the items in the presence of the suspects duly witnessed by representative from the Department of Justice, media and barangay officials of Bugnay. The confiscated items weighed about 36 kgs. with Dangerous Drugs Board value of Php4, 320,000.00.

The suspects along with confiscated items, and the vehicle were brought to Tinglayan Municipal Police Station for further investigation and documentation.

PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong, OIC of Kalinga Provincial Police Office, commended the police personnel in performing well their duties and responsibilities in the implementation of the community quarantine protocols.

Limmong said the Kalinga police is conducting of quarantine checkpoints to preempt the occurrence of crimes or criminal activities by individual/lawless elements and to strengthen preemptive and pro-active steps on physical distancing. (JDP/PAB-PIA CAR, Kalinga)
