3 Cordilleran in Top 10 of PMA 'MASIDLAWIN' Class of 2020

BAGUIO CITY, May 22(PIA) -- Three Cordilleran are in the Top 10 graduating class of the Philippine Military Academy "Masidlawin" (Mandirigmang Isinilang na may Dangal at Lakas Upang Maging Tanglaw ng Inang Bayan) Class of 2020.

Cadet First Class Rojes Gaile Jamandre of Lamut, Ifugao is the Top 4 graduating cadet. The 22-year old daughter of a farmer and housewife will be joining the Philippine Army.

In top 5 is Cadet 1CL Jeb Belting Bay-an of Kabayan, Benguet. Son of a farmer and a housewife, he is the first from the town of Kabayan, Benguet to graduate from the PMA. He received the Philippine Air Force Saber from PAF Commanding General Major General Allen Paredes as the top graduate joining the said unit. He is also a recipient of the Australian Defense Best Overall Performance Award.

This 25-year old Ibaloi finished BS Psychology from the University of the Cordilleras before entering PMA.

In the Top 6 is Cadet 1CL Catabay Gunnawa Ladyong of Lubuagan and Tabuk City, Kalinga. The 24-year old son of a laborer and a housewife is a company commander during his stint in the Academy. He will be joining the Philippine Army.

This year's PMA class valedictorian is Cadet 1CL Gemalyn Deocares Sugui of Echague, Isabela, who will join the Philippine Army. She is also the recipient of the Presidential Saber, Philippine Army Saber, Management Plaque, Spanish Armed Forces Award-PA, JUSMAG Award, and Social Sciences Plaque.

Other Cordilleran awardees include Cadet 1CL Mary Rose Manganip Alda of Irisan, Baguio City who is this year's female "tarzan" or the Athletic Saber awardee.

Cadet 1CL Valerio Malidon Salbino of Tuba, Benguet is the recipient of the Department of Tactical Officers' Plaque.

Cadet 1CL Janri Merch Balingao Santos of Bontoc, Mountain Province, the Battalion Executive Officer, received the Sports and Physical Development Plaque.

Cadet 1CL Dexter Buyogan Mamma of Lower Pinget, Baguio City, who is a company commander, also received an awardee during the graduation rite.

The graduating class is composed of 196- strong cadets with 173 males and 23 females. 100 (10 females will join the Philippine Army while 45 (6 females) and 51 (7 females) members are joining the Philippine Air Force and Philippine Navy, respectively.

The "MASIDLAWIN" had their commencement on Friday, May 22, inside the Fort Del Pilar but the ceremony was not open to the public.

The PMA announced earlier that the graduation rites would be not be opened to the public including family and relatives of cadets to prevent mass gathering and possible transmission of the COVID-19 virus. (JDP/RMC- PIA CAR)
