DAGUPAN CITY, May 25 (PIA) - The Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) intensifies its fight against disinformation or fake news in order for the Filipinos not to be misled.

Assistant Secretary Ramon Cualoping said the government's lead communication arm does its best to give correct and vetted information to the public especially in this time of pandemic when people are just at home.

"Kapag nasa bahay lang ang mga tao, ang imagination masyadong malikot o kung minsan, mali ang interpretasyon sa mga impormasyong dumarating. Kaya they deserve to know the right information," Cualoping said during his visit to the Philippine Information Agency office in Pangasinan on Saturday.

He said, just like the coronavirus, fake news mutates fast that is why it is imperative that people discern any information that comes to them and cut the sharing of unverified information to stop the mutation.

"No matter how tiresome it may seem, we will continue to do our job as government communicators and that is to give the right information to the public. Let's kill the virus called fake news," Cualoping added.

He urged Pangasinenses to visit the official website of PCOO and the COVID-19 website ( where all official issuances, guidelines, and videos can be seen to keep them well-informed.

Asec. Cualoping, together with Usec. Joel Egco of the Task Force on Media Security, joined Sec. Martin Andanar in his visit here to personally see the situation of members of the media and distribute some assistance for them. (JCR/JND/VHS, PIA Pangasinan)
