DAVAO CITY, June 30 (PIA) - The Department of Social Welfare and Development's (DSWD XI) Home for Girls and Women (HGW) in Davao City is campaigning to make DSWD XI staff and residents of the HGW protected from the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by producing face masks.
The said in-house production of facemasks, which started last March 10, 2020, is under the HGW's Productivity and Skills Development (PSD) section. Initially, a total of 300 masks were produced for HGW residents, and staff. And another 1,000 facemasks were produced for DSWD XI regional and provincial staff.
HGW Center Head Sheryl Ann Dumalogdog discussed how the said production of facemasks benefited the residents under the HGW's Productivity and Skills Development section.
"Each [facemask] was sold at 25 pesos each for the materials and other needs of the sewers who are also HGW residents," Dumalogdog said.
A total of ten (10) residents of the HGW are involved in the production process of the re-usable facemasks while three (3) HGW staff are working with the residents by supervising them at the PSD section of the said DSWD XI facility.
Dumalogdog discussed how the residents of HGW have been trained under the PSD while also being oriented in observing proper health safety protocols to minimize the risk of transmission of COVID-19 at their work area.
"All of them are trained on how to sew using the high speed sewing machines. They are following the health and safety protocols, thus, while working they are wearing face masks and the 1 meter physical distancing are strictly observed," Dumalogdog added. (PIA XI/KPLCaro)
