SORSOGON CITY, June 29, 2020 (PIA) - The provincial government of Sorsogon is set to vacate on July 24, 2010, all the public learning institutions in the province used as temporary quarantine facilities established at the onset of COVID-19 Pandemic in the country.
This is in preparation for the proposed opening of classes on August 24, 2020, should face o face learning mode be allowed as an option in the modalities of learning continuing program of DepEd.
In a press conference last June 29, 2020, Sorsogon Governor Chiz Escudero said that he is more inclined of conducting a face to face learning system in remote areas considering the poor to none signal of intenet in most of the rural areas in the province.
The governor likewise, contend that online learning program of DepEd for the coming opening of classes may only be applicable in areas like Metro Manila and other key areas where internet signal is strong and stable but not in the far flung areas in the provinces.
Escudero is also in doubt whether the DepEd is now ready to implement the modular method and if so, the modules must be ready anytime before the opening of classes. Modular system is just one of the 5 modalities of learning adapted during a pandemic.
DepEd Sorsogon bared that more or less 110,000 enrollees have already submitted their enrollment forms online or thru drop box system starting June 1, 2020. Of 180,000 expected enrollees this year, around 60% of them had already enrolled while at least 70,000 are still yet to have their enrollment process before enrollment closes by July 15, 2020.
