PARAnAQUE CITY, Sept. 25 (PIA) -- The Taguig City government opened its first Molecular Laboratory located at the city-run COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) mega-complex facility in Lakeshore on Friday.
The molecular laboratory will help the city reach its target of 100,000 RT-PCR tests or 10 percent of Taguig's population by the end of 2020.
During the meeting with Taguig City National Task Force against COVID-19 and the inauguration of the new COVID-19 molecular laboratory, Mayor Lino Cayetano said, the facility will enable the city to avoid serious health issues in the future as it can test pathogens that affect both humans and animals.
"I want to thank the Department of Health, talagang ginabayan kami para eventually, we are one of the three LGUs who has their own molecular laboratory," Cayetano said.
The mayor cited the close coordination between the local government and national government as essential in fighting the pandemic.
"Taguig remains the lowest active case here in NCR. Nananatili na isa sa pinakamababang case fatality rate hindi lang sa Pilipinas, kung hindi sa buong mundo, yung napakamababang case fatality natin," Cayetano added.
The COVID-19 mega-complex facility hots not only the molecular laboratory, but also the Lakeshore Mega-quarantine facility, and the Lakeshore National Testing Facility enabling the local government improve the implementation of its Trace-Test-Treat approach.
For the Lakeshore Mega-quarantine facility, 70 rooms were opened during the inauguration and the rest of the 430 units will be opened within the next three months.
Taguig has a total 67,072 confirmed COVID-19 cases as of September 25, 2020, of this number, 412 are active cases, 6,604 recovered, and 56 have died from the virus. (PIA-NCR/Taguig PIO)
