CEBU CITY, Oct. 26 (PIA) -- The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Oct. 23, 2020 inaugurated the Regional Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Innovation Center (RTIC) in Cebu, the first of its kind in the country.
TESDA Director General Sec. Isidro Lapena led the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the formal opening of RTIC located at the TESDA-7 Compound, Salinas Drive, Cebu City.
The RTIC is a P40-M project built with the help of TESDA partner-agencies which started in December 2018.
The center features a display area for scholars' works, a multi-media room, and a multi-purpose room.
It is an anticipation of TESDA for the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0)
Lapena, in his message, said that "through this RTIC, we can offer them excellent and world class services that they deserve from the government."
"Let us work harder to help the Filipino people to rise from the crisis we are now facing and through this RTIC we can empower our kababayans with the right skill to meet the demands of the industry here in Region 7," he said.
Lapena added the innovation center in Cebu will operate in response to the demands of the export processing zone and manufacturing sector and will deliver training in distinct areas with competence such as machining in the near future since robotics and mechatronics are now the trends of the time.
The implementation of innovations in TVET must be dynamic, encompassing, and inclusive of the education and training; experimentation in research and development; and entrepreneurship education.
Meanwhile, the Cebu City government commended TESDA-7 for their effort to make the innovation center possible. (hfg/PIA7)
