SAN FERNANDO CITY, Nov. 24 (PIA) - The series of events for the 9th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness (JJWC) Week celebration has begun in Region 1.
On Monday, the Regional Juvenile Justice and Welfare Committee (RJJWC-1) kicked off the regional celebration through the Kapihan sa Ilocos program of the Philippine Information Agency.
Department of Social Welfare Field Office 1 Regional Director Marcelo Nicomedes Castillo, also RJJWC-1 Chairperson, led the panelists during the said Kapihan.
He stressed that this year's celebration from Nov. 22 to 28 aims to increase awareness of stakeholders on concerns about children at risk (CAR) and children in conflict with the law (CICL) and to generate support in the full implementation of Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act as amended.
"If fully embraced by the stakeholders and duty bearer, the law may be fully implemented," Castillo said. Further, he said this year's celebration coincides with the National Children's Month celebration this November.
Aside from the kapihan, the other activities for the week-long celebration are Webinar on the Protocol When Handling Children Allegedly Involved in Dangerous Drugs on Nov. 24; Webinar on Integrated Care Management Protocol in Handling CICL and CAR on Nov. 26; and Culmination Activity on Nov. 27.
The closing program will include the unveiling of the third edition of Aritemtem, the official coffee table book of RJJWC-1; launching of Barkadahan Strategy, an intervention to prevent or lessen the incidence of CAR and CIL; and the signing of Memorandum of Agreement with the City Government of San Fernando as the first partner-implementer of this strategy.
The RJJWC-1 Secretariat will also distribute some promotional materials and COVID-19 response hygiene kits to the committee members and partners.
Activities for the 9th JJWC week celebration are anchored on the theme "Karapatan ng Bawat Bata sa Panahon ng Pandemya Siguruhin, Pagpapatupad ng Juvenile Justice Law Paigtingin". (JCR/JPD, PIA La Union)
