CATARMAN, Northern Samar, Nov. 24 (PIA)-- Northern Samar is assured as beneficiary and included in the list as one of the 32 priority provinces on anti-hunger efforts of the government.
This was disclosed by Cabinet Secretary and anti-hunger czar Karlo Alexei Nograles during the Panindugan with PIA and friends, a virtual meeting hosted by PIA8 Regional Director Olive Tiu.
Secretary Nograles made mention of the newly created Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger signed on January 10, 2020, by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte through Executive Order 101.
"While the government is focused on the fight against Covid-19, the national food policy was launched, the foundation of all policies and this will be the guide until 2022 to 2030 based on our commitment in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Rule No. 2 which is Zero Hunger by year 2030, aimed at tuldukan ang kagutuman, malnutirisyon at kawalan ng pagkain sa mga pamilihan at hapag ng bawat tahanan ng bansa," Sec Nograles emphasized.
"Hunger is not an easy target to eradicate, it's very complex, and this requires not only a coordinated response on the part of the government but a sustained effort involving multi-sectoral collaboration, not only inter-agency but whole of society," Sec Nograles further explained.
When asked if Northern Samar is included in the program, Nograles categorically answered, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Leyte are all part of the 42 priority provinces when it comes to anti-hunger efforts and anti-malnutrition efforts, and with a more coordinated effort.
"As far as government programs are concerned, the task force is made up of different agencies, DSWD, DA, DILG. DTI. DOLE, DOH, National Nutrition Council and all, suffice to say that when it comes to the programs, our particular focus and areas within the list of priority provinces which include Northern Samar," he added.
When it comes to collaboration, Sec. Nograles pointed out to the private sector that the program will be implemented simultaneously, "we will see where the gaps lie, or where are those areas which need improvement or areas where the private sector can get into. This is what we would like to happen, to avoid duplication of efforts and maximize the resources from both public and private."
"Before the task force was created we have kanya kanya , may kanya kanyang ginagawa, even in the government, kanya kanyang gawa, what the President emphasized is synchronized and targeted talaga, what really is the priority, what priority provinces."
"This is what we are doing now, so that yung pinaka nangangailangan ng tulong ay dapat makakatanggap ng tulong whether it's from government or private sector." Sec Nograles said. (nbq/ADiaz/PIA N. Samar)
