ILIGAN CITY, Nov. 24 (PIA) -- In support to the Balik Probinsya Bagong Pag-asa (BP2) Program of the government, the National Housing Authority turned over P25 million assistance to the municipality of Kauswagan for the construction of housing units for returning residents of Lanao del Norte.

Located in Bagong Pag-asa Organic Village, Barangay Tacub, Kauswagan with 6.395 hectares of land area, 25 quadruplex units will be constructed.

In a press conference held after the launching of the B2 Program, National Housing Authority General Manager and BP2 Executive Director Marcelino P. Escalada Jr. explained the funding for the construction of housing units.

"The funding... P25 M is sufficient for 87 [units], 13 [units] will be funded by LGU to complete the first 100," said Escalada.

Escalada also assured that the construction of the shelters is on the right track.

The completion of the 100 housing units is targeted to be completed within 200 days.

Mindanao Development Authority Sec. Emmanuel Pinol shared that the land area is donated by GN Power Corporation Kauswagan.

"What we are trying to build here, with the help of all other agencies, is a microcosm of what we would like the Philippines to be, a well-organized people with one common objective and a target of reducing poverty and improving our productivity," said Pinol.

Meanwhile, Secretary Eduardo del Rosario of the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development emphasized the importance of improving the quality of life in the provinces to give sustainable opportunities to its people.

"The objective of the government is to trigger economic activities in the provinces, doon magsisimula para yung internal migration mapigil natin at ang Metropolis ay hindi magkaroon ng decay [we can stop internal migration from there and the Metropolis will not have] because of too much population," said Del Rosario.

Through the BP2 program, the government envisions establishing a strategy to drive inclusive and balanced urban and rural development and providing sustainable projects for micro, small and medium enterprises. (LELA/ PIA ICIC)
