ZAMBOANGA CITY, Dec 04 (PIA) - Zamboanga City Mayor Beng Climaco once again reminds the public to stay vigilant and alert for suspicious persons as the city continues to receive security threats from terrorist groups.

This, as the city continues to fight the spread of COVID-19, especially during the holidays when more people are expected to go out and purchase goods and necessities.

Mayor Climaco declared Monday (November 30) that Zamboanga City remains on heightened alert as she received reports from the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) about terrorist plans to conduct bombing and kidnapping activities here.

NICA Regional Director Ariel Perlado said that even during the pandemic, they are not stopping in reaching out to the communists groups including terrorists groups highlighting the success rate of peace engagements in provinces with high vulnerability on communist groups and armed conflict. "We are not going to stop, if they want to join us in a right way, then they have to face the consequences," Dir. Perlado added.

Moreover, Mayor Climaco assured that the city's 98 barangays together with the police and all other security forces are ready to respond to these terrorist threats and the city will continue to impose strict protocol measures as the COVID-19 threat remains serious and real. "It is the responsibility of every individual to avoid and protect themselves from the virus," Climaco added.

As the security sector remains vigilant and alert, the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) said that the residents are obliged to do their share by diligently complying with the laws and guidelines as well as sharing information related to the presence of any and all suspicious-looking individuals, activities and baggages including abandoned vehicles in their area.
