STA. MARIA, Ilocos Sur, Jan. 18 (PIA) - - Farmers and fisherfolks here and from neighboring towns now have easier access to the services of state-run Land Bank of the Philippines (LANDBANK) as the first agri-hub in the province was inaugurated in this municipality on January 16.

"LANDBANK Sta. Maria Agri-Hub has brought financial services closer to more bank clients in the rural area, which is in relation to President Rodrigo Duterte's principle that LANDBANK should cater to the needs of farmers, fisherfolks, agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs), and agriculture enterprises," Agriculture Secretary William Dar said.

Secretary Dar, Sta. Maria Mayor Brigido Camarillo, Jr., and LANDBANK North Luzon Branches Group Head First Vice President (FVP) Ma. Belma Turla spearheaded the inauguration and blessing rites.

In her message, FVP Turla said that the agri-hub provides financial and technical services to the bank's clients, especially to the farmers and fisherfolks in the municipalities of Sta. Maria, Burgos, and San Esteban, all in Ilocos Sur.

"LANDBANK Sta. Maria Agri-Hub provides a wide array of services which includes banking services such as account opening, withdrawals, and check encashment; lending services such as the processing of loan applications; and agrarian services such as processing of AR bonds and handling of agrarian-related concerns from land owners, bond holders, and ARBs," she said.

Moreover, LANDBANK's various digital banking platforms such as the Digital Onboarding System (DOBS) which simplifies the account opening process for new clients to only 10-15 minutes is helpful to minimize physical contact among individuals following the Inter-Agency Task Force protocols to help fight the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

"We are very much happy that there is now a commercial bank here in our town, and we, at the local government unit, assures our 100 percent support to the Sta. Maria Agri-Hub," Mayor Camarillo said.

Joining Secretary Dar and Mayor Camarillo were Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Noel Reyes, Executive Regional Director Nestor Domenden, National Tobacco Administration (NTA)-Candon City Branch Manager Cesario Sambrana, and Philippine Coconut Authority Board Member Rosalina Bistoyong who visited various agriculture production sites and afterwards conducted dialogue with barangay officials, farmers, and fisherfolks in Barangay Silag, Sta. Maria.

Secretary Dar also visited the NTA's Kadiwa at Ani Building in Narvacan town, and the land space in San Juan town where the Ilocos Sur Research and Experiment Center (ISREC) will be built.

The LANDBANK Sta. Maria Agri-Hub is the fifth Agri-Hub established nationwide, along with four newly opened Agri-Hubs in Calabanga, Camarines Sur; Barotac Viejo, Iloilo; Sual, Pangasinan; and Echague, Isabela. (AMB/JMCQ/PIA Ilocos Sur)
