SAN FERNANDO CITY, Jan. 18 (PIA) - The City Development Council (CDC) of the local government here approved the proposed procurement plan of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines.

In a meeting held at the covered court in Barangay Langcuas on January 15, the committee adopted Resolution No. 1 of 2021 which initially allotted Php21 million to purchase said vaccine.

Also, the Resolution No. 2 of 2021 which grants authority to the Executive Committee to use additional appropriations for the procurement, in view of the Sangguniang Panglungsod proposal to allocate up to Php 63 million fund, had been passed.

City Mayor Hermenegildo Gualberto emphasized the need to procure the vaccines for the city's people in augmentation of the vaccine roll out plan of the national government.

"Gusto natin bumili ng sariling vaccine dahil this is a part of our COVID-19 recovery plan. Alam natin gaano kahalaga ang vaccine para masiguradong ligtas ang ating mga kababayan dito sa San Fernando and at the same time mapabilis din ang economic recovery ng ating siyudad," Gualberto said in an interview with the Philippine Information Agency.

He added, "Alam natin na 'yong manggagaling sa national government ay hindi sapat para mabigyan ng bakuna ang karamihan ng ating mga residente."

As he cited that many local government units are also after the vaccine, he pointed out the urgency to purchase in order to ensure the availability of the said serum for the city's people.

The Local Finance Committee, City Health Office (CHO) and the City Inter-Agency Task Force are mandated to work closely to review each brand of the vaccine and to possibly fast track the procurement process.

Also, the CHO is now finalizing the list of priority beneficiaries of the free vaccines.

"As to the list of recipients, we want our plan to complement with that of the national government. Pero dahil malaki-laki 'yong pondo at kaya niyang i-cover 'yong iba pang sektor bukod sa mga nasa listahan ay susubukan din natin silang i-accommodate," the local chief executive said.

Further, he said that a special Task Force has been formed which focus on ensuring a systematic and orderly vaccination process in the city once the serums are available. (JCR/AMB/CGRC/PIA La Union)
