URDANETA CITY, 18 Jan (PIA) - A 7.17 kilometer by-pass road in Urdaneta City that will cut travel time into half and benefit thousands of motorists is now open in Pangasinan.

Secretary Mark Villar of the Department of Public Works and Highways led the ceremonial drive-thru of the P1.8-billion, six-lane by-pass road on Monday which starts at the junction of the Manila North Road in Brgy. Nancayasan and traverses westward terminating at Brgy. Anonas.

Sec. Villar said the by-pass road forms part of the Build, Build, Build program of the Duterte administration that aims to reduce traffic congestion and reduce travel time to benefit more people.

"The Build, Build Build program will deliver more projects. Magkakaroon tayo ng expressway network. It is the vision of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to connect the entire Luzon from north to south."

He said the Department is looking forward to extending the by-pass road in the towns of Binalonan and Villasis and the construction of more diversion roads in all municipalities of the province.

In Region I, Sec. Villar underscored the construction of the San Fernando City bypass road in La Union province that will make a trip to Ilocos provinces faster. He also lauded the completion of the Rosario, La Union portion of the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX) which was recently inaugurated.

"For the economy, marami ang nawawala at nasasayang kapag matindi ang traffic, so with these by-pass roads, pwedeng-pwede na ang through-and-through," Villar explained.

Meanwhile, Fifth District Representative Ramon Guico IIII said the bypass road in his District is a big help considering the volume of traffic in Urdaneta City owing to its quick progress.

"The creation of new networks will create new opportunities for development," Guico said in an interview.

Sec. Villar was joined on stage by 5th District Rep. Ramon Guico III, 6th district Rep. Tyrone Agabas, Board Member Chinky Tababan who represented Gov. Amado Espino III, Mayor Julio Parayno of Urdaneta City and Ilocos DPWH Regional Director Ronnel Tan. (JCR/VHS, PIA Pangasinan)
