TARLAC CITY, Feb. 24 (PIA) -- Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and Benito and Catalina Yap Foundation (BCYF) expressed their support to the innovation programs of Tarlac State University (TSU).

During the 2021 Philippine Innovation Forum, DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena underscored that TSU is one of the only four state universities and colleges (SUCs) identified to showcase their campus and innovative programs.

"We are holding this academic innovation forum or campus tour in four universities starting with the Mariano Marcos State University in Region 1, Isabela State University in Region 2, TSU in Region 3, and Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology in Region 5," the cabinet official enumerated.

DOST and BCYF have been partnering for SUCs' research and development and innovation for five years now.

Dela Pena noted that initiatives in the SUCs for research and development are ways forward for shared learning experiences and creation of innovative projects.

"We have much priority to universities' research and development institutes or councils to have a networking and exchange of views and mutual learning from the experiences on both sides," he said.

Moreover, Dela Pena vowed to continue assisting TSU in achieving its visions in the field of science and technology.

"I hope that the short interchange has been fruitful and I encourage you to have a continued communication with Metals Industry Research and Development Center so that we can develop programs that can assist you and help you in achieving you goals particularly in research and development and innovation," he said.

For her part, TSU President Myrna Mallari conveyed her gratitude to DOST and BCYF for the opportunity presented to them.

"Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to showcase what we have here at TSU in the areas of food technology and solar technology which I believe are also made possible through your intervention," Mallari expressed. (CLJD/GLSB-PIA 3)
