OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental, Feb. 23 (PIA)--The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-10 declared Barangays Trigos, Guimad, Guingona, Gotocan Daku, Sangay Daku and Sangay Diot, in Ozamiz City as drug-cleared areas.
The validation was made by PDEA-10 and Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing (ROCBDC) Chairman Benjamin Recites III, Philippine National Police (PNP) Representative PMaj Jerry Ligan, Department of Health (DOH) Representative Ma. Dolores Mercado, Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other stakeholders involved in the national anti-drug campaign.
"This is a significant victory for the Asenso Ozamiz administration after attempts of the previous administration on drug-clearing and having spent P1.7 million, had failed; working on a budget of P200, 000 and starting from scratch last November 2020, this amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic," Mayor Sancho Fernando Oaminal said.
The mayor hoped that the city would be able to maintain the drug-free status and for the barangays to be the first of more barangays and eventually all barangays in the city so Ozamiz will be declared a drug-free city.
Oaminal also assured that the Asenso Ozamiz administration will continue to allocate funds and support all efforts exerted by all stakeholders to make the city drug-free as they journey towards Asenso Ozamiz.
The program is in line with PDEA's three-pronged approach of holistic anti-drug strategy, which helps in building drug-resistant communities. (SMRN/PIA Misamis Occidental)
