BFAR awards brgy fish terminal project to Abra fisherfolks

VILLAVICIOSA, Abra, April 15 (PIA) - Fisherfolks in the province got the needed boost for their livelihood from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources that recently provided barangay fish terminal project to five organizations.

BFAR-Cordillera Regional Director Lilibeth Signey and Provincial Fisheries Officer Janet Daguio turned-over Barangay Fish Terminal Project to Langbaban Women's Organization of San Isidro; Nagcanasan Fisherfolk Association of Pilar and the Association of Youth for Agriculture of Villaviciosa at Poblacion, Villaviciosa. The LALALAI Women's Association of Lacub and Salnec, Madalipay, Bucay Fish Vending Organization of Bucay were also awarded their project at the Provincial Fisheries Office in Calaba in Bangued.

Each organization received 80 kilograms of fresh tilapia, one unit of 4- cubic-feet chest freezer, three pieces styrobox with 40-kilogram capacity, and one unit weighing scale with 10-kilogram capacity.

Said project aims to serve as additional income for community organizations and make available supply of fish in the barangay.

Eusebio D. Diaz, Nagcanasan Fisherfolk Association president, expressed gratitude to BFAR saying, "We thank you for this support or project you have given us; we promise to work hard and make this grow and prosper as we serve our fellow residents by selling a more affordable price and have an adequate supply of fish in our respective barangays. "

Diaz also thanked the joint Community Support Program of the Charlie Company, 81st Infantry Battalion of the, Philippine Army and Abra Philippine National Police for bridging many government programs in "our municipality especially in our barangay."

Meanwhile, BFAR-CAR distributed cash and food assistance to 272 beneficiaries under the Cash and Food Subsidy for Marginalized Fisherfolk and Farmers program of the Department of Agriculture. Each beneficiary was given voucher worth P3, 000 for claiming at any M Lhuillier branch and P2, 000-worth of food subsidy consisting of rice, eggs and meat.

Said assistance is under the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act which aims to accelerate the recovery and bolster resiliency of Filipinos amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. (JDP/XADC/CAGT - PIA CAR, Abra)
