JAKARTA -- The Sinabung volcano in Indonesia's North Sumatra province erupted twice on Monday with columns of ash up to 2,000 meters from its peak, according to the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center.

The first eruption occurred at 10:43 a.m. local time, spewing ash up to 2,000 meters from its peak to the southeast for 230 seconds, while the next one happened at 10:47 a.m. local time, belching ash up to 1,000 meters for 136 seconds. (Indonesia-Sinabung volcano-Eruption)

MANILA -- The Philippines' Department of Health (DOH) reported on Monday 9,628 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 945,745.

The death toll climbed to 16,048 after 88 more patients died from the viral disease, the DOH said. (Philippines-COVID-19)

BANGKOK -- Thailand registered 1,390 new COVID-19 cases and three more deaths in the last 24 hours, the Center for the COVID-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said Monday.

Of Monday's confirmed cases, 1,384 were domestic infections and six were imported cases, CCSA spokeswoman Apisamai Srirangsan said. (Thailand-COVID-19)

NEW DELHI -- The Delhi government on Monday announced a week-long curfew till April 26 in a bid to contain the rising graph of COVID-19 in the national capital after the curfew imposed last week ended Monday morning, a government official said.

The official Twitter handle of Delhi's ruling party the Aam Aadmi Party (Common Man Party) said the government announced a complete curfew from Monday night till next Monday morning. (India-Delhi-Curfew)

NEW DELHI -- India's COVID-19 tally surpassed the 15-million mark, reaching 15,061,919, on Monday, revealed the latest data by the federal health ministry.

There was an increase of 273,810 COVID-19 cases during the past 24 hours. This is the third consecutive day when the country witnessed a single day spike of over 250,000 new cases.

Besides, as many as 1,619 deaths took place since Sunday morning, taking the total death toll to 178,769. (India-COVID-19)
