SAN JUAN, La Union, May 13 (PIA) - - Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) leaders in Ili Sur village in this town have established a facility that will aid the youth in their education under the 'new normal.'

Robelson Anderson, SK chairperson, said they put up the SK E-Learning Center to help the students both in their online and modular learning.

He shared that it is the first of its kind among the 41 barangays in the whole town of San Juan.

"We initiated the SK E-learning center to support students who need a strong internet connection for their online classes. It will also contribute for the students' research and other online requirements," Anderson said during the inauguration of the center held on May 7.

He said SK Ili Sur allocated funds for the purchase of equipment inside the center such as computer desktops, Wi-Fi router, printer, and bookshelves, among others.

"Dito sa learning center, mayroon silang access sa connection sa Wi-Fi at puwede rin silang mag-photocopy at mag-print nang libre," he said.

He added that parents appreciate the initiative of SK Ili Sur because it helps them defray expenses for learning and print materials.

"Maraming mga magulang ang nakakatipid dahil dito sa SK learning center at natutuwa sila na ang services namin dito ay libre para sa mga kabataan," the youth leader added.

Likewise, the center shall serve as the office of the SK Ili Sur.

The project has also received support from the barangay council and the municipal government as key officials attended the inauguration.

In his message, Mayor Arturo Valdriz lauded the ingenuity of the SK leaders that aims to address the needs of their fellow youth.

The local chief executive also vowed to donate one desktop computer set to be used in the facility.

Further, the Department of Science and Technology will install one unit of STARBOOKS, a standalone information kiosk wherein information access is still possible even without internet connection.

Meanwhile, Belzar Mae Canoy, SK Federation President of Lingig, Surigao del Sur, also shared their contribution in helping the youth in catching up on their classes through the E-Library Project of Barangay Poblacion.

"Ang SK council ng Brgy. Poblacion ay nag-allocate ng funds to purchase three computer units at Wi-Fi router. Libre itong magagamit ng mga estudyante upang makatulong sa kanilang klase," Canoy said during her guesting during the Network Briefing News episode on Monday.

Both the SK Ili Sur and SK Poblacion ensure the safety of individuals who visit the E-Learning Center and the E-Library, respectively, by implementing strict health protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic. (JCR/AMB/JPD, PIA La Union)
