CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, May 13 (PIA)--To promote effective implementation of RA11285 or the "Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act" in government establishments, the he Department of Energy - Mindanao Field Office (DOE-MFO) held on Tuesday an energy efficiency webinar among national government agencies (NGAs), State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), and government-owned-and-controlled corporations (GOCCs) in Mindanao.

In his opening message, DOE-MFO Director Nilo Geroche emphasized the importance of establishing a framework in institutionalizing and utilizing energy saving initiatives from various public and private entities as a key factor in building a sustainable and environmentally conscious country.

Signed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte on April 2019, the "Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act" encourages the reduction in the use of energy in regard to the cost effectiveness, building function, comfort, safety, and productivity of its occupants.

Through the webinar, the DOE-MFO aims to effectively orient the government offices by instilling in the personnel the best practices and guiding focal persons on the localization and implementation of the RA in their respective spaces.

To ensure compliance among offices, designated Energy Efficiency and Conservation Officers (EECOs) and Focal Persons on the provisions under the Government Energy Management Program (GEMP) are obliged to submit Energy Consumption Reports to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Public Sector Management Division (EPMSD) under the Energy Utilization and Management Bureau.

With over 90 participants from various government agencies and stakeholders, the DOE-MFO now aims to bring its campaign to local government units (LGUs) to eventually cultivate a culture of energy-conscious Filipinos. (VPBaustista/PIA10)
