BACO, Oriental Mindoro, May 14 (PIA) -- The municipal government here conducted yesterday site inspection visit to assess the eight-hectare land intended for the housing program of the government to Mangyans at Sitio Tabukala, Brgy. Baras of this town.
The project is in line with the National Housing Authority's (NHA) partnership with the local government unit to create a comprehensive housing program intended for the Mangyans in the area.
The partnership of the local government with the NHA was made possible through the joint efforts of Mayor Reynaldo A. Marco, Vice Mayor Erick Castillo and all members of the Sangguniang Bayan (SB).
In the initial assessment conducted by the LGU, Brgy. Baras has identified 150 families that would benefit the NHA Housing Assistance Program for Indigenous People (HIPAP). Based on the recent discussion of both parties, the project will be funded by around P20 million for the construction of houses for the indigenous peoples (IPs).
Brgy. Baras has a population of 1,626 based on the 2015 census of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). Said population represented 4.37 percent of the total population of Baco according to PSA.
The Municipal Engineering Office made the inspection of the site headed by Engr. John Rex Marco together with Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Ar Jay Aceveda and members of Sangguniang Barangay of Baras headed by its chairperson Fundador Fuentes.
The project complements the local government's 'Abot Kamay na Pabahay para sa Barangay' program. (LTC/PIA-OrMin)
