MARAWI CITY, May 17 (PIA)--To promote child protection and support the education of learners in this city, the World Vision Philippines distributed supply kits to pupils in five schools.

World Vision targets to hand over kits to 1,679 learners as part of its Urban Child Protection Project. Of this, 217 kits have been distributed to learners from H. Hassan Elementary School (ES) in Barangay Malimono.

Aminah Ampuan, principal of H. Hassan ES, conveyed her gratitude for the support given to their learners.

"Sa World Vision, salamat sa ipinamigay ninyo sa amin. Malaking tulong po ito para sa mga bata," said Ampuan.

[To World Vision, thank you for giving these. This is a big help for the children.]

Other schools that will benefit from the program are Cadayonan Elementary School, Tuca-Boganga Elementary School, Abdulazis Elementary School, and Sikap Elementary School.

Each kit consists of a school bag with information and education materials on child protection, two pieces of notebooks, a ballpen, and a pencil.

According to Cecile Cenas, project coordinator of World Vision Ph for Marawi project, other components of the project include strengthening of child protection in schools, disaster risk reduction in schools, strengthening literacy, among others.

This distribution activity is part of the organization's support in the celebration of Marawi Week of Peace spearheaded by Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM).

The organization has already turned over 30 tablets each to five schools, with LCD projector, and MiPRO portable speakers last month. There is also an ongoing construction of handwashing facilities for these schools and a playground will also be built. (LELA/PIA ICIC)
