Commonwealth-Uni Avenue zipper lane reopens

15 Oct 2021, 19:51 GMT+10

MANILA - The Quezon City government is re-opening the Commonwealth Avenue-University Avenue zipper lane this weekend to help ease traffic, especially during the morning rush hour.

According to an advisory issued on Friday, the zipper lane will start in front of the UP Techno Hub and will end at the corner of Commonwealth Avenue and University Avenue going to the University of the Philippines (UP).

The zipper lane will serve as a bypass for vehicles passing along Commonwealth Avenue going to UP, C.P. Garcia Avenue, and Katipunan Avenue, thus avoiding the Philcoa area and Elliptical Road.

"Mag-uumpisa sa isang dry run ang Commonwealth-University Avenue zipper lane, sa October 16 at 17, Sabado at Linggo, simula alas-6 ng umaga. At magmula October 18, ang regular na oras ng nasabing zipper lane ay 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., Lunes hanggang Biyernes (There will be a dry run for the Commonwealth-University Avenue zipper lane on Saturday and Sunday, October 16 and 17, from 6 am. From October 18, the regular hours for the zipper lane are 6 a.m. to 11 a.m., Monday to Friday)," the city government post read.

The zipper lane was first tested in January to ease the flow of vehicles along the construction area of the Metro Rail Transit-7.

The QC Traffic Management is also currently implementing a 30-day trial, starting October 11, of the No Contact Apprehension Program, which will have cameras recording the vehicles that will commit violations.

Fines will be imposed when the trial run ends. (PNA)
