Bangsamoro barter trade can expect seamless clearance: BOC Davao

DAVAO CITY - In support of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), the Bureau of Customs Port of Davao (BOC Davao) has assured to conduct seamless customs clearance for the regional government's trade activities.

"BOC Davao is committed to providing full assistance in the smooth implementation of policies and principles on the Mindanao barter trade," BOC Davao District Collector Erastus Sandino Austria said Thursday.

Earlier this month, Austria met with BARMM stakeholders to discuss the customs policies and procedures on the lawful entry of goods.

Included in the discussion were the registration and accreditation of the importers and exporters as well as the needed requirements for customs clearance, the calculation of customs duty and taxes, and the types of importation and exportation, he said.

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), meanwhile, said it is banking on strengthening the barter activities of the region, particularly with the Brunei Darussalam Indonesia Malaysia the Philippine East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).

With the main goal of propelling economic activities for the BARMM, the Tawi-Tawi Special Economic and Freeport Zone program and the Bangsamoro Development Corridor, particularly the region's island provinces, are among MinDA's priority initiatives.

In a statement Thursday, MinDA said the Tawi-Tawi Special Economic and Freeport Zone also supports Mindanao and the Philippines' bid to become a stronger economic player in the EAGA and ASEAN.

"President Rodrigo Duterte highlighted the establishment of barter trading in Mindanao as one of his priority projects, directing relevant agencies to come up with policies for the resumption of such activities, primarily in the island provinces," MinDA said. (PNA)
