DUMAGUETE CITY - As the local government here girds up for a three-year peace and security plan, the police chief has recommended increasing the mobility assets of the city police force to bolster its anti-crime operations.
City police chief Lt. Col. Joeson Parallag told the Philippine News Agency on Wednesday that he made some recommendations during a workshop held Tuesday here to draft the peace and security plan.
"During the workshop, my priority recommendations include providing motorcycles and four-wheeled vehicles to the city police to increase our mobility because we already have enough personnel to address the requirements of the capital," Parallag said.
The workshop, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)-Dumaguete, identified and discussed various issues and concerns on the anti-illegal drugs campaign and peace and order, he said.
Participants from the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection are given until Friday to submit their respective plans, programs, and actions (PPAs) for consolidation by the DILG.
Once the peace and security plan is crafted, the city DILG will present this to the peace and order council for budget allocation and approval, Parallag said.
Other concerns that the police chief cited include the creation and training of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) for this capital city, considering that many special events are now being held here, he said.
This November, the city will be the venue of the 12th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) School Games which the Philippines is hosting.
Ten Asean countries with thousands of athletes and other delegation officials are expected to arrive here for the games that will be played from November 19 to 28. (PNA)
