CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- The fare increase for various public utility vehicles (PUVs) in the Northern Mindanao Region will start on October 3, the regional Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB-10) said Thursday.
In an interview, LTFRB-10 chief Amenodin Guro said an increase of PHP1 on both traditional and modern jeepneys and an additional PHP5 on taxis' flag-down rates is set to be implemented.
That means that at least in this city, the new fare rate for old public jeepneys will be PHP12; modern jeepneys, PHP14; modernized PUVs run by transport cooperatives, between PHP25 to PHP30, depending on the distances.
The current base rate of taxis is PHP40, with an additional PHP13.50 per kilometer and PHP2 per minute traveled.
Public buses will also see a fare increase, Guro said, adding that this will be known through an updated fare matrix.
Meanwhile, Guro said LTFRB-10 has no jurisdiction over smaller transports like the city's "motorelas" or modified motorcycles because it is under the control of local government units (LGUs).
"It is up to LGUs and local chief executives to conduct public hearings on the plans to increase the base fare on motorcycle transports," he said.
Guro urged transport operators to visit the LTFRB-10 office to get their original copies of the adjusted fare matrix. (PNA)
