MANILA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Philippines reported 695 new COVID-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 4,027,469.

The Department of Health (DOH) said the number of active cases dropped to 17,550, while 15 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, taking the death toll to 64,500.

Metro Manila, the capital region with over 13 million people, tallied 212 new cases.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said COVID-19 infections across the country, including Metro Manila and adjacent areas, have risen since early this month.

However, she added that hospitals' admission of severe and critical COVID-19 patients "show signs of plateauing in recent days."

The Philippines reported its highest COVID-19 single-day tally of 39,004 new cases on Jan. 15. The country, with a population of around 110 million, has fully vaccinated over 73.7 million people.
