STOCKHOLM -- Sweden's central bank (Riksbank) announced on Thursday a 75-percentage-point key rate hike to 2.5 percent -- the highest in 14 years.

The Riksbank said the rate hike, which will go into effect on Nov. 30, was necessary as the country's 12-month consumer price index (CPI) hit 10.9 percent in October. (Sweden-Interest Rate)

BISHKEK -- Eight people died in a traffic accident in southern Kyrgyzstan's Batken Oblast, the regional department for road safety reported Wednesday.

MANILA -- Philippine troops killed six suspected rebels in a clash Thursday in the country's southern Sultan Kudarat province, the military said.

In a report, the military said the fighting broke out around 5:30 a.m. local time while an army battalion was conducting a security operation in Bagumbayan town where a dozen of suspected armed men were hiding. (Philippines-Clash)

COLOMBO -- The Central Bank of Sri Lanka said Thursday it has decided to maintain its Standing Deposit Facility Rate and Standing Lending Facility Rate at the current level of 14.50 percent and 15.50 percent, respectively.

Its Monetary Board made the decision after considering recent and expected developments related to both the domestic and global economy as well as macroeconomic projections, the bank said in a press release. (Sri Lanka-Interest Rates)
